Today in Fashion Week:September 30th

First things first, I'd like to commend Gossip Girl on their Fashion Week episode last night! There were a few nods to the fashion crowd that I noticed, so I was very pleased with what they did. Now, there are like a million shows today, so let's get to that!

Balenciaga

Balenciaga was so boldly different this season that I cannot express admiration or disgust. I have a feeling that as I inevitably adjust to seeing this everywhere I will learn to love it.

To see the rest, including Junya Watanabe and Comme Des Garçons, click

Junya Watanabe

Junya Watanabe had an ethnic feel to it. You have to admire them for so boldly embracing the look they chose, but some of it just wasn't working. The headpieces, however, were brilliant.

Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake was still stuck in sheer mode. Like I've said, I'm ready for a new trend already, but it was still a solid show.

Ann Demeulemeester

I think Ann Demuelemeester is another one of my favorites this season. She played with ruffles and draping for some seriously covetable items.

Comme Des Garçons

Oh my god! Cotton candy wigs? I'm interpreting this as a county fair gone zombie.

Jean Paul Gaultier

The show opened with a series of ballerina-like leotards. They were minimal but I got them. What followed was a series of subdued looks that leave me with a little more worry. Do we really want to live in a world where the conservative person in the office is wearing JPG?

Véronique Branquinho

Veronique Branquinho is fantastic at what she does, and whatever that is is extremely agreeable to me. The suits alone make this another one of my favorites.

Loewe

Loewe is in the process of reinvention under Stuart Vevers. This collection, shown on mannequins, is sure to help with brand identity. It was chic and approachable, but did not forget its Spanish roots, with ruffles shown throughout.

That's it for today, but Karl Lagerfeld and Givenchy are only some of the highlights tomorrow.

Today in Fashion Week:September 29th

Bonjour! Today is a fashion week kinda day, judging by tonight's episode of Gossip Girl, which will be prominently featuring Abigail Lorick's Spring collection, as well as boasting cameos from Michael Kors, Nastia Liukin, and Tinsley Mortimer. Their filming was all over the news during NYFW, so let's just try for authenticity, guys? Now that that's out of the way, we can move on to the goings-on in Paris, where things are starting to heat up.

Christian Dior

Dior is, well, Dior, so it can never be bad necessarily. There will always be those who worship the collection, and those who have criticisms. I don't have criticisms, but I'm not exactly worshiping it either. The hair and makeup seemed like an ill-fated attempt to top YSL last season, and the clothes were, for the most part, bland.

To see the rest, including Maison Martin Margiela and Vivienne Westwood, click

AF Vandevorst

Despite those highly questionably lips, AF Vandevorst was a classic collection that speaks true to the idea of "staples" being preached in every article about dressing in recession. Simple takes on black blazers and white shirts were shown with cut-out leggings that actually make me consider them again. Also, their rose printed lace, unabashedly old lady, shows the other side of the trend of the moment.

Undercover

From the first look I got a sort of Marilyn Monroe vibe that continued throughout. It had the classic Hollywood feel, but it was still so new, in the way that only Undercover can be.

Maison Martin Margiela

Amidst rumors that he's hoping to break things off with fashion altogether, Maison Martin Margiela showed a collection that appeared to protest against clothing in general. From a fashion standpoint, there's really nothing to judge, but visually it's packed with the kind of brilliance only present in Margiela's mind. Is this his way of transitioning into something artsier? Judging by the presentation, I hope so.

Vivienne Westwood

After going tribal last season, a somewhat subdued and all-around pretty chic collection was unexpected, but certainly not unwelcome. When designers can only rely on their quirkiness failure is bound to happen, so a show of skill is always a good thing. But don't go thinking this wasn't classic Westwood. There was still plenty of rock and roll cool to ogle.

Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto's signature topsy-turvy deconstructed style was reinvented with a sleek edge for Spring. This is probably my favorite collection of his I've ever seen.

That's all for today, but tomorrow is a pretty huge day with Balenciaga and Commes Des Garcons just part of the lineup!

Fantasy Gossip Girl League

Fantasy sports leagues have been a popular pastime for those avid fans, but sports is one topic that truly perplexes me so I have no experience with the matter. Now, entertainment site Fafarazzi has decided to bring the concept to an entirely new demographic with The Fantasy Gossip Girl Game. It's this simple: you pick your three favorite characters (Blair, Chuck, and Jenny for me) and whenever they do something like fight or do drugs, you get points! So if you've ever had an "I knew that was going to happen!" moment, this is the game for you. And you'd better sign up quick, because the show comes back September 1st!

Meet Abigail Lorick

Photobucket
If you watch Gossip Girl, there's probably a good chance that you've seen some of Abigail Lorick's clothes. They show up on Blair frequently, and Eleanor Waldorf's fictional collection consists entirely of Lorick clothing. Abigail was born in Florida, but moved to Paris when she was eighteen and became a successful model. In 2003 she moved to New York to study at FIT and design for T.S. Dixin's. She launched her own collection in 2007. Her clothes are always romantic and timeless, and she refuses to follow trends. She will be showing her Spring 2009 collection in New York. Expect a full report in September!

New Music Post!

In order to really be on top of everything fabulous, it's important to stay up to date with the next big things in music. So, in keeping up with that idea, I've searched everywhere for the best of the newest of the new.

The Fieros

The fieros are a dallas-based unsigned group formerly known as The Valentines. They list Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Stone Roses, Oasis, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Big Bang, Caesars, Fleetwood Mac, John Lennon, The Who, The Staple Singers, Ray Charles, and Joe Cocker as their influences on Myspace. You've probably heard Shut Up and Let Me Go on either an iPod commercial or Gossip Girl, but now it's time to put a name to the song. The Ting Tings are an indie pop duo with a number one album in their native England. You can hear some of those songs below.

Gossip Girl!!!

Joey: I can already tell gossip girl is gonna be a big part of our site
Meg: lol :D
Believe it or not, while we selfishly enjoy our summer, some of our favorite shows are already back to work. Nicole Richie and Mary-Kate Olsen have already filmed appearances on Chuck and Samantha Who, and Gossip Girl, a TGTEF (The Guide to Everything Fabulous) staple, has made its way to the Hamptons for what is sure to be another scandal-ridden season. Now, as any viewer can attest, the show is as much about the characters and the drama they inevitably get themselves into as it is the fabulous ensembles everyone and their mother (literally) wears. One perk of our media obsessed world is that paparazzi have caught just about every outfit so far. To see some of the highs and lows of these outfits captured, click
Serena

I'm not sure exactly what they were going for, but the whole look is just a little too ghetto fabulous for my liking
4/10

I like it. A lot. The dress is lovely, as is the bag.
8/10

I'm kinda speechless on this one. Sure the tunic is beachy and all but the print is ghastly.
1/10

This one's pretty nice. But I don't know how it really fits the character of Serena. I think the costume designer has had a little trouble finding a look for her.
6/10
Photobucket
I don't know if I can get behind the dress. I think the peach looks good on her but I don't really understand the dress itself. But props for the bag even if it is a little showy.
6.5/10
Photobucket
This one I actually like a lot. The slouch of the dress and the chunky bracelet perfectly convey the laid back beachy feel they're going for.
8/10
Photobucket
Unless Serena has some sort of storyline in which she becomes a businesswoman in the 80's I'm sure the blazer doesn't belong to her, but like I said, the peach is a good look for her. Plus the lacy slipdress, someone paid attention to the S/S 08 runways.
8/10

Blair
Photobucket
For some inexplicable reason we only have one Blair outfit so far but let's just be thankful it's a good one. Blair has a flair for the dramatic and she makes no exception here. Spring florals+fifties housewife+bike+bitchy=fabulous
!! Who knew?
9/10

Jenny
Photobucket
This is gorgeous. I love it when Little J dresses up.
9/10
Photobucket
I love this. So far I think I like Jenny's wardrobe the best this season.
9/10

Chuck
Photobucket
To answer the age old question, Chuck wears short shorts, and he evidently will be doing so for the duration of his Hampton's stay.
6/10
Photobucket
I have some issues with this one. Evidently the shark sweater opened Chuck's wardrobe to new horizons, but this influx of argyle was not the way to go.
4/10
Photobucket
I love it, kinda. I definitely wouldn't dress like this but Chuck is unabashedly your grandfather and this is something he has permission to wear. And I like his sunglasses.
6/10
Photobucket
This hat has become Chuck's new scarf.
7.5/10
Photobucket
See? I told you about the hat! And this is definitely how Chuck would dress on the beach.
9/10
Photobucket
The color is not exactly summery. I guess we'll see what he wears it to.
5/10

Nate
Photobucket
The thing about Nate is that I'm having trouble distinguishing what's a costume and what's Chace Crawford's own clothing.
4/10
Photobucket
Are the shoes really necessary?
5/10
Photobucket
Ok, actually I like these shoes.
6/10

Dan
Photobucket
Dan's clothes are really formulaic.
6/10
Photobucket
See what I mean?
4/10
Photobucket
This is a little bit senior citizen casual.
3/10
Photobucket
I'm telling you they just put a button down and some pants and they're good to go.
5/10

Eric
Photobucket
Eric has always been a little experimental in his clothing. He's starting to look like Chuck's mini me though. But I like the shoes
