Jamie Lynn Introduces Maddie Briann

Photobucket
If there was ever any question of paternity, question no more. Trust me, Maddie Briann is her father's daughter. But I am a little confused about this cover. Did the good folks over at OK! magazine think giving Jamie Lynn grey hair would make us forget she was 17? Anyway, as I ponder this question, take a look at the product of Mama Lynne Spears "Alleged" deal with OK! magazine, a somewhat touching but eerily creepy photospread introducing Maddie Briann Alridge to the world.

Mariah Carey

To start off our little series of top searches, yesterday's was Mariah Carey. With good reason: The Long Island native has been the best selling female artist since the 90's. And with her latest album, E=mc2, she shows no signs of slowing down. She also recently appeared in the movie You Don't Mess with the Zohan (a very strange movie, I wouldn't really recommend it; however she does make a guest appearance).
Here are some of the best and the biggest of her latest album. Enjoy!

This is her latest single, a fun, summer love tune.

This has a sentimental value to me.

I just think this vid is hilarious. Read more!

Our Life on the Blogging D-List

Photobucket
Every Thursday at 10 I sit down and watch the hilarious My Life On the D-List, a reality show on Bravo that follows the self-proclaimed, and I have to concur, "hilarious Kathy Griffin." Why do I find it so funny? Maybe it's the fact that I confess I'm a celebrity gossip junkie, and Kathy Griffin is like my enabler with her highly amusing anecdotes. But recently, it could be that I resonate with her bid to find fame, recognition, and, most importantly, publicity. Yes, believe or not, preaching to a non-existent choir can be frustrating, and with a blog that, at last check, had 3 views other than either of us, the concept is close to my heart.
Publicity has been a buzz word for my blogging parter-in-crime Meg and I, and with our highly embarrassing statistics, we feel the pressure more than ever. We've tried a video on youtube, followed up by incessant friend requests. (we just felt the cold hard slap of reality with a "who are you people and how did you find me?"-type message) But now we have a new brilliant and shameless plan.
Every day Yahoo!(tm, copyrighted, don't sue us please) collects the statistics of Yahoo searches all over the world, and posts the most popular ones. Now, as interesting as it is to know that Jessica Alba is the most searched person on the internet, (did anyone steal that title?) we've figured out a much better way to use these statistics. A sort of "Internet world domination," if you will.
For the next couple of weeks we're going to be blogging about these top searches, putting aside any slight bit of pride and/or ego we may have. And while you may not care about Cheryl Cole (Girls Aloud member, today's top search, congrats Cheryl) we ask that you bear with us for the time being in a series of posts we like to call Our Life on the Blogging D-List.

The History of the mani/pedi

The perfect pedicure is a must have for a trip to the beach. It can be the perfect finishing touch for any outfit and overall, doesn't it just make you feel happy to look down and see a cheery, shimmery color? Have you ever wondered where the idea of painting nails came from? Well I've done a little research and heres what I've found.
The practice is believed to have originated in ancient China. They used a mixture of ingredients such as egg whites, gelatin and beeswax for a sort of clear varnish, and for color they added mashed flower petals. It traveled to the rest of the world through Italian explorers who brought it back from China. The Egyptians also colored their nails with a reddish-brown dye made from the henna plant (the same thing still used for temporary tatoos).
In Eygpt your nail color signified your social class. Queens like Nefertiti and Cleopatra wore deep shades of red while lower classes were only allowed pale shades. Back in China, nail color was also an indication of social status. Gold and silver, and later, red and black were symbols of the wealthy.
Through the years, the tradition died down, and women went for a more natural look by rubbing tinted creams or powders into their nails and buffing them shiny. This practice was continued until the 1920's, when the invention of car paint gave the basis for colored nail enamels. Then there were only a few colors to choose from, as pinks and reds were the basics. However, darker reds were sometimes frowned upon, as they were seen to be too excessive.
By the 1950s, more color options were introduced and hairdressers were sometimes trained to also give manicures, which gave way to the modern day manicurists. Then in the 70s, the acrylic nail was invented and the market has been growing ever since.
So after learning all this, I decided to channel my inner royalty, and had some fun with these colors...

Red nails have always been the color of controversy...

In 1927, a product called Society Nail Tint was introduced, which was a white paint applied to the underside of the nails, and resembled the modern day french manicure.

Black polish, once only worn by goths and other sub-cultures, is now becoming more widely accepted and certainly makes for a dramatic touch...

I apologize for the oh-so-unfab band-aid... But dont you love the color selection we have today as opposed to back in the 1920s? Purple was almost impossible to come across until the 1950s!

Gossip Girl!!!

Joey: I can already tell gossip girl is gonna be a big part of our site
Meg: lol :D
Believe it or not, while we selfishly enjoy our summer, some of our favorite shows are already back to work. Nicole Richie and Mary-Kate Olsen have already filmed appearances on Chuck and Samantha Who, and Gossip Girl, a TGTEF (The Guide to Everything Fabulous) staple, has made its way to the Hamptons for what is sure to be another scandal-ridden season. Now, as any viewer can attest, the show is as much about the characters and the drama they inevitably get themselves into as it is the fabulous ensembles everyone and their mother (literally) wears. One perk of our media obsessed world is that paparazzi have caught just about every outfit so far. To see some of the highs and lows of these outfits captured, click
Serena

I'm not sure exactly what they were going for, but the whole look is just a little too ghetto fabulous for my liking
4/10

I like it. A lot. The dress is lovely, as is the bag.
8/10

I'm kinda speechless on this one. Sure the tunic is beachy and all but the print is ghastly.
1/10

This one's pretty nice. But I don't know how it really fits the character of Serena. I think the costume designer has had a little trouble finding a look for her.

I don't know if I can get behind the dress. I think the peach looks good on her but I don't really understand the dress itself. But props for the bag even if it is a little showy.
6.5/10
Photobucket
This one I actually like a lot. The slouch of the dress and the chunky bracelet perfectly convey the laid back beachy feel they're going for.
8/10
Photobucket
Unless Serena has some sort of storyline in which she becomes a businesswoman in the 80's I'm sure the blazer doesn't belong to her, but like I said, the peach is a good look for her. Plus the lacy slipdress, someone paid attention to the S/S 08 runways.
8/10

Blair
Photobucket
For some inexplicable reason we only have one Blair outfit so far but let's just be thankful it's a good one. Blair has a flair for the dramatic and she makes no exception here. Spring florals+fifties housewife+bike+bitchy=fabulous
!! Who knew?

Jenny
Photobucket
This is gorgeous. I love it when Little J dresses up.
9/10
Photobucket
I love this. So far I think I like Jenny's wardrobe the best this season.
9/10

Chuck
Photobucket
To answer the age old question, Chuck wears short shorts, and he evidently will be doing so for the duration of his Hampton's stay.
6/10
Photobucket
I have some issues with this one. Evidently the shark sweater opened Chuck's wardrobe to new horizons, but this influx of argyle was not the way to go.
4/10
Photobucket
I love it, kinda. I definitely wouldn't dress like this but Chuck is unabashedly your grandfather and this is something he has permission to wear. And I like his sunglasses.
6/10
Photobucket
This hat has become Chuck's new scarf.
7.5/10
Photobucket
See? I told you about the hat! And this is definitely how Chuck would dress on the beach.
9/10
Photobucket
The color is not exactly summery. I guess we'll see what he wears it to.
5/10

Nate
Photobucket
The thing about Nate is that I'm having trouble distinguishing what's a costume and what's Chace Crawford's own clothing.
4/10
Photobucket
Are the shoes really necessary?
5/10
Photobucket
Ok, actually I like these shoes.
6/10

Dan
Photobucket
Dan's clothes are really formulaic.
6/10
Photobucket
See what I mean?
4/10
Photobucket
This is a little bit senior citizen casual.
3/10
Photobucket
I'm telling you they just put a button down and some pants and they're good to go.
5/10

Eric
Photobucket
Eric has always been a little experimental in his clothing. He's starting to look like Chuck's mini me though. But I like the shoes

What Is Couture?

The word couture is one that's been overused to a point that it's become associated with a clothing company that makes most of its profit selling terry cloth sweatsuits. Thankfully that's a trend that seems to be dying out but unfortunately it seems that its association with the word couture is here to stay, at least for now. But the point of this post is to educate and hopefully do its part to rid of all the misconceptions about couture. The word couture itself translates to sewing or dressmaking in French. Thus the phrase "haute couture" translates to "high sewing," or "high dressmaking." According to wikipedia, to be defined as a couture house, you must meet certain specifications

  • Design made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings.
  • Have a workshop (atelier) in Paris that employs at least fifteen people full-time.
  • Each season (i.e., twice a year), present a collection to the Paris press, comprising at least thirty-five runs with outfits for both daytime wear and evening wear.
These shows happen between the Fall and Spring ready-to-wear shows, and just so happen to be going on right now. Potential clients sit in the audience and pick their favorite designs, then come in for a fitting with the design team. It is during this time that alterations and modifications are made to the design, and eventually the client receives their perfect garment, along with a hefty bill.
Alright, now that you understand couture a little bit more, it's time for the fun part! I've picked some of my favorites from the Haute Couture shows so far.

Iced Chai Tea: move over lemonade

Wow, my first post! No pressure right? Well i shouldn't worry, since the fabulousness of this topic speaks for itself. I came across it one hot day last week. My family was making dinner, and in true southern fashion, we had to have some iced tea. Unfortunately, we were fresh out of regular tea. However, upon further inspection, we found a box of vanilla chai tea, right next to the hot coco mix. It was then that we decided to experiment, and the results just blew my mind! That's right, that amazing pick-me-up for a dreary winter day can also be refreshing and cool for the summer. Just add ice. So we made a whole pitcher of it, and as soon as i took a sip, i said "this is going to be the next big thing!" So go ahead and make yourself some. You'll see what i mean. Just follow the directions on the box and don't forget sugar. Read more!
